Hot Cross Buns

Edit1.jpg

For a first attempt at Hot Cross Buns, we were pretty pleased with the outcome. It was also a lovely way to pace our day, as it takes three one-hour rises, so we went for a walk for the first hour, and watched Chitty Chitty Bang Bang on TV for the second two. Through this recipe, we’ve realised that our oven seems to be far hotter than usual temperatures and so the buns came out a little overdone on the outside, but delicious inside! I’m not a fan of currants and we couldn’t get hold of mixed peel, so we left those out and added raisins and extra orange peel instead. We might have been a bit liberal with the apricot jam as a glaze but it was tasty!
